Canoeing the Colo River

The lower reaches of the Colo are ideal for canoeing and the river can be easily canoed from Upper Colo Reserve to the Hawkesbury River. It is easier, if you can organise it, to paddle downstream and with the tide.

There are limited points to launch your canoe / kayak since most of the length of the lower Colo is privately held. The best put places are (click on the text for a Google map link):

  1. Upper Colo Reserve
  2. Under the Colo Bridge on the Putty Road
  3. Skeleton Rocks Reserve (just north of the Bridge to Nowhere)

A canoe / kayak map of the Colo is available here.

There are no canoe or kayak hire places near the Colo. The closest are at Penrith.

For those of you who like liloing there are many opportunities to lilo much of the Colo. Probably the most common lilo trip is from the base of Bob Turner’s Track to the Upper Colo Reserve. This can be done as a long day or an overnight trip staying as Colo Meroo reserve.
